I (Linda) found this in Steve’s desk when I was cleaning it out. I had never seen this before. Steve’s mom, Marjorie Price Allen was very close to her father, JR Price. (We called JR Price Grandaddy, a name that Steve chose to be called by his grandchildren).
JR Price had passed away several years before, but Marjorie yearned to talk to him, so she wrote this letter.
August 20, 1997
Steve, I was wishing tonight that I could write a letter to my daddy, but I didn’t think the Post Office would have a route that extends that far. If there were a way to get a letter to him, this is what I would say:
Dear Daddy,
Remember that son of ours about whom you said, “You don’t have to worry about that boy!” Well, you were right. You were always right, Daddy.
I think it was when he was in high school, and we were worrying about his grades. Or maybe it was when he wasn’t behaving in seminary that you said that.
I wish you could have been here today (or maybe you were) when he gave his lecture about Benjamin Franklin. You would have loved it!
Everyone who was there knows how he feels about those wonderful founding fathers that the Lord raised up for the very purpose of establishing this great nation in freedom, so that the gospel could be restored.
Steve has such a pleasant manner of delivery, and his sense of humor shines through at appropriate times. His testimony is so evident, especially at the conclusion of his discussion.
He’s a lot like you, Daddy. He loves to teach and speak. He loves the scriptures and knows them so well. People are drawn to him. They gather around him before and after every lecture to talk and ask questions. He has a happy personality like yours. He seems to love everyone like you did.
It makes us feel so good, so grateful, to see him use the talents he has been blessed with, to share with others these wonderful truths. You would be proud of him. We are.
You were right, Daddy. We didn’t need “to worry about that boy.”
Thank you, Steve for being the kind of son you are.
I love you so much,
MOM

Linda,
Thank you for sharing this letter. It is a sweet reminder of Steve and his gentleness and his enthusiasm for the Founding Fathers. I hope he is helping us with the political situation we are going through right now. I bet he has been with the Founding Fathers and loves working him them. I hope you have the peace, calm and strength you deserve at this time.
So Touching & True !!! So Grateful you married
My Forever Cousin Linda !!!
